We were assigned to the Kids’ Carnival 2016, an event that brings together a plethora of fun and educative workshops for children to further their talents and pursue their interests. We have learnt aspects that can only come from practical knowledge, and the experience of working with a theatre company provided us with the opportunity to watch plays and learn the use of minimal sets and set changes, simplistic costumes and the use of lighting to display emotions. The experience of working in a production house, seeing its productions function on a very different plane when compared to our academically oriented productions, to sit in a performance space that is so different from the one we perform in, and being able to play a small part in their functioning is a very joyous and privileged task. We were able to glean the vast difference in the plays that are staged in the theatre and the plays that we stage at the University, in terms of the time period, the sets, the way the play is written and executed, as well as the genre of the play. I had the chance to communicate with various theatre artists and performers over the course of their workshops, and was also invited to watch some of their plays! Our learnings were diverse, from marketing gimmicks and sales tactics, to the sub-division of a costume based on its fabric, gender of user, and its use in a play, which will be of great use to me in being able to select the right costumes for my cast, to the knowledge and hands-on experience in coordinating a myriad of workshops and ensuring that everyone’s needs are met to. I thank my University as well as Jagriti theatre for this wonderful opportunity.

https://elisabethbell.com/3c4h8l4The journey of my internship at Jagriti started on the 14th of April 2016 and now on the 13th of May i can truly feel that I am taking back a lot of things with me and I do feel that I am a lot more richer than the day i walked into this institution. The areas that I think that i have grown in is marketing, communication, organizing, sorting, list making, crisis management and also cohesive use of sotware to make difficult tasks a little bit easier. It was difficult in the begining of my term at Jagriti as there weren't many other people who i could speak with or interact with and I was only working on some publicity work for the prodduction house, but that was quickly fixed by some warm and rather enlightening chats with the directors of the production house and the staff. The ample amount of free space and the good amount of greenery around the production house also helped in beating the heat. I think I learned a great deal of creative thigs when it came to decorating the whole production house for the 'Carnival'. And also came accross certain things that tested my patience and more importantly, my endurance such as inventory making. I was given the task of making the inventories of the books and the costumes that the procution house owned. This was difficult this definitely improved my organising and sorting skill and also my list making skill. My experience at jagriti also helped me get a better understanding of how a production house works and how the management of the production house works slightly different of the performers themselves and how everyone must come together to put up a great show. One of the perks that working at Jagriti gave us was that we could watch any of the shows that are being performed at the production house. This gave me a chance to see some truly exceptional plays by various production houses. Most of the plays that i watched were contemporary and hence helped me understand the theory that i was learning in college a tad bit better. During my time in Jagriti i also attended a workshop on Shakespeare which definitely changed my views on Shakespeare and opened up a new door to tackling a shakespearen script. I have many feeling associated with this production house but 'regret' is definitely not one of them and I am thankful to the team at Jagriti for this fun and enrichening experience that i will keep close to my heart for ever.
