Mithyasur explores the deep influence of myths and stories in the evolution of human civilization. At its heart, it is a play about the complex interplay between truth and illusion, knowledge and ignorance—especially when these are shaped by the powers of state and religion. Set in 18th-century Hindustan, the story unfolds in a small princely state and centers around an ancient temple, its high priest Somdev, and his patron deity—the demon king Kumbh. This is no ordinary demon, but one who governs the state through Somdev's dreams, subtly guiding its rulers, demanding human sacrifices as penance, and maintaining control through fear and prophecy. But what happens when this demon suddenly stops appearing in the priest's dreams? How does one govern a state when divine instructions fall silent— especially in a time when the looming threat of war with the Company government hangs over the valley? Caught between devotion and delusion, Mithyasur follows the journey of Somdev as he seeks answers-not only about the state's future, but also about his own faith, authority, and truth. This play is a modern take on a 1931 classic by Noël Coward. It tells the story of Anshuman and Maya, who were in love for seven years and married for two, until they got divorced. Now, they both arrive at the same hotel in Goa with their new partners, Anjali and Shikhar, for their pre-wedding honeymoon. To their surprise, they find themselves in rooms right next to each other. As they meet again, old feelings come back, and they realise they still  love each other. So, they decide to leave their partners and run away together. But things don’t go smoothly. Anjali and Shikhar team up to find them and finally catch up in Mumbai, only to see Anshuman and Maya fighting again like before. What happens next is a mix of fun, emotions, and drama as the characters try to figure out love in today’s world.
