Kaumudi (Moonlight) - a play in Hindi - is about a rite of passage. Using the moonlit timeless night on which Krishna delivered knowledge to Arjuna as its central trope, Kaumudi explores the dynamics between an estranged father-son duo who play Eklavya's ghost and Abhimanyu respectively, in a theatre in late 1960's Allahabad, over three days - the last three performances of a great actor who has nearly lost his sight; and, in so doing, the play brings to light the ghosts of caste-based injustices, the passing over of knowledge from a father to a son, a thespian to an upstart, the banality and beauty of art, and how an efficient mode of production ultimately replaces a lesser efficient mode. Confessions from a Mental Asylum follows the raw, unsettling, and darkly humorous journey of Maverick, a man whose only crime is refusing to live a life shaped by monotony and social conditioning. An absurdist soul with an instinctive intolerance for pretense, Maverick navigates the world with a brutal, unfiltered honesty that society cannot or will not  tolerate. His refusal to conform becomes the very reason he is branded “unstable” and confined to a mental asylum (There are other reasons too that will be revealed in the play). Inside the asylum’s walls, Maverick encounters a world that is ironically far more absurd than he is. Through fragmented memories, surreal conversations, and sharply honest monologues, he unravels the thin line between sanity and insanity. The institution meant“fix” him becomes a mirror reflecting society’s fear of truth, individuality, and unpredictability. The play blends absurdism, introspection, and dark wit, immersing the audience in Maverick’s confessions, sometimes chaotic, sometimes painfully clear. A comical satire Set in the pre-Independence Banaras, where the Viceroy of India is supposed to come, the magistrate is at a loss as to how to make the city clean for the visit. At the same time, the people of Banaras are calling for a strike in protest of the viceroy's arrival. The magistrate gets hold of the priest Moteram who decides to go on hunger-strike to stop the city's people from going ahead with the strike. This has been translated from the famous original Hindi story called "Satyagrah" written by Munshi Premchand. He is one of the most celebrated writers of the Indian subcontinent, and is regarded as one of the foremost Hindustani writers of the early twentieth century.Read More
